About us

Built around a wood oven

Oak & Ember is a small café run by a small team. We roast our own coffee, bake our own bread and keep the rest deliberately simple.

Our story

A joinery workshop that smells like bread

Oak & Ember started with one wood oven, a second-hand roaster and a stubborn belief that a neighbourhood deserves better coffee. The room still has the marks of the workshop it used to be.

  • The room

A former joinery workshop, kept mostly as we found it: oak beams, brick and a wood-fired oven at the back.

  • The coffee

House blend roasted weekly, plus one rotating filter so regulars always have something new to try.

  • The kitchen

A short menu, cooked to order. Bread proves overnight; pastries go in the oven before the door opens.

How we work

Four rules we don't bend

Nothing revolutionary — just the habits that keep a small café consistent.

01

Cook less, cook better

A tight menu means everything leaves the kitchen the way it was designed to, even at 11am on a Saturday.

02

Buy close to home

Milk, flour, produce and pastry butter come from suppliers within a short drive of the door.

03

Waste as little as we can

Yesterday's loaves become today's croutons; spent grounds go out to the community garden.

04

Pay attention to the room

Lighting, music volume and seating spacing get as much thought as the coffee programme.

Why people come back

Small details, done properly

Everything here is built around one idea: a café should feel like the best part of someone's morning.

Fresh, traceable ingredients

Produce collected from local growers most mornings, with the menu shifting when the season does.

Handcrafted drinks

Beans roasted in small batches on site and dialled in twice a day on our brass espresso bar.

Cosy, unhurried room

Warm oak, low light and velvet banquettes — built for long conversations and slow mornings.

Takeaway & pantry

Order ahead for pickup, or take home a sourdough loaf and a bag of this week's roast.

Come see it for yourself

The best introduction is a seat by the window and whatever is coming out of the oven.
